Back to School Blogathon!

Summer is winding down. The kids are getting ready to head back to school, if they haven't already gone. That makes this the perfect time for my next blogathon!

Of course, this will have something to do with school.

Bloggers, you are tasked with creating your very own movie class using characters from as many different films as you wish (almost). We will also include someone to run the school and someone to run the class. The rules are as follows:

1. Choose at least 1 character to fit into each of the following roles:

Administrator (either a dean, principal, head master, or some other equivalent)
Teacher
Star Student/Nerd
Jock/Class Bully
Popular Girl/Diva
Invisible Girl (aka not popular girl)
Class Clown
Troubled Youth

Of course, include a few words on why each character was chosen.

Some of the categories have slashes because there is a lot of overlap within. However, feel free to break those up to make your class even larger. For instance if you use a jock who is a nice guy, you can also include a bully. As long as you have the minimum number of students and others, your class can be as large as you like.

2. There are NO RESTRICTIONS on age. Theoretically, you can have Zach from Kindegarten Cop in the same class as Rodney Dangerfield's character from...um...Back to School

3. You can use multiple characters from a single movie, but a class must be made up of characters from at least three separate movies.

4. Use movies in which school is an important part of the plot or are largely set in a school.

5. Finally, use my banner somewhere in your entry and link back to this post.

I'm setting the deadline for September 21, 2014. Leave a link to your entry below in the comments section. On the 22nd, I will create a post highlighting  all the participating entries.

Happy Blogging!

  1. Wow, this one sounds like fun, but it's going to be a hard decision. One thing I can say is that mine might end up being a messed-up class.

    1. I'm not expecting any classes that would be easy to deal with.

  2. Question: you say the movies have to prominently feature a school, does that mean that the people we choose have to be students/staff there or is any character from a film meeting that criteria acceptable?

    1. The characters in question should be explicitly represented as students or staff in the film in which they appear.

    2. Okay that's good to know. I almost put Frank Booth onto my list. That would have been a messed-up class.

    3. Woah. I wouldn't step foot in that classroom.

  6. This looks like an interesting idea, count me in. I'll have a tough time coming up with a selection though since I've seen dozens of movies featured at/around a school, but I'll have something up sometime within the next week :)

    2. I must've changed my list ten times since I first started thinking about it. I had thought about creating more than one "class" but the way my schedule is I probably won't get any more in between now and the deadline so here's the link to my entry - http://mikescinema.blogspot.com/2014/09/back-to-school-blogathon.html

  7. Okay, I think I've covered most of the bases (the only categories I haven't found so far are the Jock and the Diva). I might just give it a few hours in case I think of anything else but if all goes well I might be able to have my entry finished by tonight.

  8. My entry is officially up and running. It was tricky, but I do still have one messed up class in a likely even more messed up school: http://hitchcocksworld.blogspot.ca/2014/08/back-to-school-blogathon.html

    2. I've actually been considering starting a second one because of how impatient I've been getting. I've already had to reach a fair bit but I might just do it if I can find a few people to fit the remaining roles.

Incidentally, this whole thing recently gave me an idea for a blogathon of my own. I was thinking I might wait until November (to coincide with the release of Interstellar) before I officially release it but I've got a draft in progress.

    3. Go for both ideas. Love to see what you cook up.

    4. Well, my big blogathon is ready. It runs with some of your ideas but also experiments with some new ones that I hope will work out:
