Christmas Movie Cast-a-Thon

One of the great things about being part of a blogging community is "meeting" others with a passion for movies. Blogathons help bring us together by giving us fun activities to take part in. This one comes courtesy of a couple of my favorites, The Flick Chicks. They have tasked us creating the cast for our very own Christmas movie using a number of pre-set roles and allowed us to add some of our own, as well. Click the link to see their original post on the matter. The rules are as follows:

1. Choose a character from TV or film for each of the roles below, and tell us what they’ll be contributing to your movie.

2. Compile your list and post it on your blog before the 1st December, 2015. We’ll put together a master list shortly after that date and link back to you.

3. Feel free to use one of the banners above, or create your own.

4. Most importantly, have fun! Tis the season to be jolly after all.

This is something I can do. Cool! She did not specify that these people had to be from Christmas related fare, but that's what I'm going to do. Why not? If we're going to get into the spirit, let's get all the way into it.

Santa: Kool Moe Dee (Beat Street)
I need my Santa to have some rhythm. This one just happens to be one of the pioneers of hip hop. That's certainly a plus when we consider that there is certainly going to be a Christmas party. Besides, Moe Dee claimed the role a long time ago:

Ho! Ho Ho, Ho Ho Ho, open up your do' (door)
I'm Santa Claus and guess what y'all
I got something to show
I came to bring some Christmas Spirit
I got a big bag now guess what's in it
Something for the rich, and something for the po' (poor)
So Merry Christmas and ho ho ho

How does that not get you giddy with Yuletide cheer?

Santa's Helpers:
Clockwise from top left: Buddy (Elf), Holly McClane (Die Hard & Die Hard 2), Sgt. Al Powell (Die Hard 2), Doug E. Fresh (Beat Street), Marcus (Bad Santa)
Santa can't do it all alone. He needs lots of help in the workshop. The no-brainer choice for Lead Elf is none other than Buddy, who has the most toy-making experience. When Santa gets into a jam, he occasionally needs someone on the inside to help him get some vital info. That's where Holly comes in. Other times, he needs someone on the outside to help, someone who won't spend much time in the workshop. For that, he has Al. Just sitting there making toys can be a tedious process. Doug helps lighten the mood by literally making music with his mouth. Finally, Marcus is there for those times when Santa has to use, ahem, shadier methods, to fulfill some of his tougher requests.

Scrooge/Grinch: The Penguin (Batman Returns)
As the Flick Chicks say, there is always someone trying to ruin the day. Who better than a guy who is mad at the entire city?

Parents: Clark and Ellen Griswold (Christmas Vacation)
I can't think of anyone who tries harder to give his family joy, regardless of the consequences, more than Clark Griswold. Of course, he couldn't do it alone. He always has the support of lovely wife Ellen.

The Children: Ralphie (A Christmas Story) and Cindy Lou Who (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)
Ralphie can be a bit cynical and has experienced some disappointment, but he truly appreciates when he gets something. Besides, Cindy Lou is an eternal optimist and will help keep us all from getting the holiday blues.

Family Pet: Gizmo (Gremlins)
He's so cute and cuddly, who wouldn't want him as a pet? We just have to be sure not to feed him after midnight, or get him wet. EVER.

Drunk Uncle: Willie (Bad Santa)
There's always that one uncle who has a little too much egg nog and tells stories about his sordid past. For us, Willie is that guy.

Christmas Party DJ: Kenny "Double K" Kirkland (Beat Street)
I did say we're throwing a Christmas party. Forget about party. We're making it a full-blown bash. As you know, every bash needs a DJ. Double K is ours.

Christmas Party Security Team:
Clockwise from top left: John McClane (Die Hard), Riggs and Murtagh (Lethal Weapon), The Ghostbusters (Ghostbusters II), Samantha Cane/Charly Baltimore (The Long Kiss Goodnight)
Our movie is going to end with a serious party. You're invited, but you're still going to have to get by these guys. You better have your invitation in hand, or be 100% sure your name is on the list. See ya there!

  2. Great post, Wendell! Die Hard AND Gremlins were both blindspot movies for me this year! I'm glad I've now seen them so I can be in on the holiday cheer!
